AI perimeter security in Marbella

In Marbella the problem is not just detecting — it is not being woken by a wild boar. Image classification decides whether it is a person, vehicle or animal, and only a person raises the alert.

Why AI changes the game in Marbella

CLASSIFIES

Person, vehicle or animal

It does not say “motion”: it identifies what each object is and acts by class. The “animal” event is recorded but does not wake you.

THE BOAR

A local fact, not theory

Marbella tops the provincial urban-boar study (40%). No motion detector or radar solves it alone — only image classification.

NO CLOUD

Analytics run locally

The analytics run on the camera or recorder, with no compulsory cloud. Your images do not leave the house, and remote access is by controlled VPN.

AI is the verification layer over perimeter detection (perimeter security in Marbella); if you already have cameras, it can be added without replacing them — see AI cameras and upgrades in Marbella.

Data protection

Cameras that obey the law, not dodge it

A camera that sees beyond your fence can become a legal problem instead of protection. Spanish data-protection rules (LOPDGDD, art. 22) are clear: a visible information sign, a frame limited to your property and access points, and image retention of one month at most unless required otherwise.

We treat this as part of the project, not as paperwork afterwards. We minimise the field of view to your plot, place the mandatory signage and set retention to the legal limit. In Marbella, where many plots border the street or a neighbour, framing well from the start avoids the complaints that year after year rank among the most frequent before the data-protection agency.

Recording well is also recording within the law: an image obtained correctly is usable; one obtained by intruding on a neighbour can turn against you.

Zoning

Zoning: making an alarm say where

A house protected as a single block can only say “something is happening”. A house divided into zones says “someone is on the north line, by the pool”, and that difference is what lets you decide in seconds instead of stepping out blind.

We divide the Marbella plot into logical zones — perimeter, garden, access points, the immediate surround of the house — and each has its own rule: what is watched, at what hour, at what sensitivity. At night the outer perimeter can be armed while you move around inside; when away, everything. The same installation protects differently depending on the moment.

Zoning also narrows the alert: instead of one sensor tripping on everything, each zone reports separately, and the image tells you exactly where to look.

Deterrence

Deterring beats recording the burglar

The best incident is the one that never happens. An intruder sizing up a house looks for the easy way in, and a plot that visibly detects, lights up and reacts is a plot that gets skipped for the next one. Visible deterrence does more work than any recording after the fact.

In Marbella we pair early detection with zoned response: when something enters the perimeter, that zone's lighting comes on and, where appropriate, the siren marks presence. It is not theatre: behind it is a real detection that has already classified this as a person, so the reaction does not trip on a cat or disturb the neighbours for nothing.

The goal is not to collect videos of attempts, but for there to be no attempt. A perimeter that reacts in time changes the equation for whoever is watching from outside.

Architecture

Why no single layer works alone

Every technology has a blind spot. Radar covers volume but not fine detail; LiDAR measures a plane precisely but not the whole garden; thermal sees heat at night but does not decide what it is; AI decides but needs something to look. Selling any one of them as a complete solution is selling a hole.

The architecture that works in Marbella combines all four in layers: radar sweeps the open volume, LiDAR seals the critical planes, thermal covers the unlit lines and AI provides the judgement that says whether a detection is a person. The alert only fires when two layers agree, which is why it does not trip on a branch but does on a real intruder.

How many layers and where depends on your plot, not on a boxed package. That is why everything goes through the visit first.

Access points

The weak point isn't the fence — it's the gate

In most homes the intruder does not climb the highest wall; they come in where there is already a gap made for coming in: the vehicle gate, the service door, the gardener's or the pool access. These are the points legitimate people use every day, and precisely for that reason the worst-watched.

In Marbella we treat those accesses as zones in their own right: detection that tells the expected passage from the one that is not, image verification of who arrives, and a record of every opening. The point is not to turn your home into a bunker, but to know who comes in when you are away, and to make sure an open service door is not an invisible hole.

Where there is domestic staff, maintenance or frequent deliveries, this is the layer that turns a normal flow of people into something traceable, with no friction for you.

Transparency

What we don't do, said plainly

Technical honesty starts with the limits. We are not an alarm receiving centre (ARC) and provide no guarding, patrol or physical response, and we do not guarantee the intervention of the security forces: the systems we install are not connected to a central station, and the alert, with an image, reaches you directly. No compulsory fee.

Nor do we promise that nothing can ever get in. No system is infallible. What a good perimeter does is detect earlier, verify with an image and give you time and evidence to act — alert, light up, record — while the intruder is still at the fence and not in the living room.

We work only with private homes — villas, chalets and fincas in Marbella — because it is what we do well. We would rather tell you what a system does not cover before installing it than after.

AI

The layer that decides, and the end of false alarms

The reason people switch their alarm off is simple: it goes off at everything. A leaf, a cat, a shadow, and the phone rings at 3 a.m. again. AI is the layer that breaks that cycle: on every detection, the camera classifies what it is — person, vehicle or animal — and assigns a confidence. Only when that confidence clears the threshold, and agrees with the radar or LiDAR detection, does the alert fire.

That double agreement — something moves AND the image confirms it is a person — is what turns dozens of useless triggers a month into the two or three alerts that actually matter. In Marbella, where urban wild boar and vegetation set off old systems relentlessly, it is the difference between a system that gets used and one that gets turned off.

The classification also records an animal's passage without disturbing you, so you have the record without the alarm. That is useful surveillance, not noise.

Thermal

Seeing at night without a single light on

A thermal camera sees no colour and no detail: it sees heat. A human body stands out against cold ground even with no street lamp, which is why it is the most reliable layer for long sight lines and unlit fincas, where an ordinary camera would see only black.

In practice, on a person of average height, thermal detects presence at tens of metres, recognises a human figure at mid-range and identifies in detail closer in — the classic detect/recognise/identify pattern. On a long Marbella perimeter that means knowing someone has entered the line well before they reach the house, without depending on any light being on.

It does not replace the AI that decides or the radar that covers volume: it combines with them. Thermal puts eyes where there is no light; the AI says whether that heat is a person, a wild boar or a car's hot engine.

The architecture

The four detection layers

RADAR

Movement in the open volume

Thousands of m² from one unit, immune to rain, shadows and vegetation. See radar.

LIDAR

A millimetric critical plane

A laser curtain that measures real object size by zone: ignores a cat, detects a person. See LiDAR.

THERMAL

Night detection without light

Sees heat in total darkness, for long sight lines and unlit fincas. See thermal.

AI

The deciding layer

Person, vehicle or animal — the end of false alarms. See AI cameras.

Frequently asked questions

Which camera tells people from animals in Marbella?

A camera with classification analytics: it identifies person, vehicle and animal separately and alerts only on what you choose. It is what makes a system sleepable in boar country.

Can I add AI to the cameras I already have?

In many cases yes: an AI recorder or analytics appliance adds classification to existing ONVIF cameras. It is the most economical route.

Does AI work at night on an unlit plot?

On the image the camera produces: with adequate lighting or infrared, yes. Without light, it is paired with thermal to detect and a visible channel to verify.

Do I need internet for AI?

No: the analysis is local, on the camera or recorder. It works even if the internet drops.

Is the animal category essential in Marbella?

Here, yes: urban wild boar are documented and exceed any “pet immunity”. Without an animal category, it wakes you before dawn.

Who can see my images?

You, as the owner. We configure the system and do not need access to your recordings to maintain it.

Does AI fully eliminate false alarms?

It sharply cuts those from wildlife, vegetation and light; combined with the radar's filters and post-installation tuning, they approach zero.

Does it comply with data-protection law?

It is configured under the LOPDGDD: sign, angles limited to your plot, one-month maximum retention and microphones off by default.

Can I see the cameras from abroad?

Yes: the image alert and video access reach your phone wherever you are. It is exactly why many second-home owners install it.

Is it GDPR-compliant if a camera sees the street?

Yes: we place the mandatory information sign, minimise the frame to your property and set retention to the legal one-month limit (LOPDGDD, art. 22). It is part of the project, not an extra.

Do I need building work to install it?

Rarely any heavy work. Existing conduits are reused wherever possible, and where they are not, the cabling is run discreetly. The specifics are decided on the visit, seeing the plot.

What if I already have cameras — are they usable?

It depends on the model. On the upgrade visit we check what is worth keeping — cabling, recorder, valid cameras — and add only the missing perimeter layer and AI, with a photo report.

Do you provide a warranty and maintenance?

Each device keeps its manufacturer warranty, and we offer optional periodic servicing. A perimeter system needs its zones checked and optics cleaned once or twice a year to truly perform.

Why won't you quote over the phone?

Because a serious price depends on the radar shadow, the real sight lines and the subdivision of your plot, and that can only be measured on site. A phone number would be made up; we prefer a fixed quote after the visit.

What is perimeter security?

Detecting the intruder on the grounds — at the fence, in the garden or on the drive — before they reach the house. It pairs a detection layer (radar, LiDAR, beams) with image verification; the alert only fires when both agree.

How is it different from a normal alarm?

A traditional alarm warns once the intruder is inside. Perimeter security warns while they are still at the fence, and tells a person from a cat, a wild boar or a branch in the wind.

What is “AI perimeter security”?

Adding image classification to detection: the AI camera decides whether it is a person, vehicle or animal, and only then is the alert raised. That is what eliminates false alarms from wildlife and vegetation.

Radar, LiDAR or thermal — which do I need?

It depends on the terrain: radar for the open volume, LiDAR for critical planes (glass facade, wall), thermal for long unlit sight lines. They are almost always combined.

Are you connected to an alarm receiving centre?

No. We are not an ARC and provide no guarding or patrol: the alert, with an image, reaches your phone directly. No compulsory fee.

How much does a perimeter security system cost?

It depends on the surface, subdivision and layers needed. We do not quote by phone: the radar shadow and real sight lines are measured on site, and that is where the price is set.

Does it work if I have a dog or there are wild boar?

Yes: image classification with an animal category records the animal without raising an alert. It is essential in this province, where urban wild boar are documented.

How do I book a technical visit?

Through the form, by email to oficina@aiperimetersystems.eu, or via WhatsApp. The visit is free and without obligation.

Do you only work with private homes?

Yes, exclusively: villas, chalets, fincas and urbanisation houses, across Málaga province.

Do you upgrade existing systems?

Yes: we check what is worth keeping and add the missing perimeter layer and AI. See system upgrade.

Shall we talk about your home?

No-obligation technical visit anywhere in the province of Malaga. We work in English and Spanish.
