LiDAR: an invisible laser curtain

A plane of light in front of what matters most — the glass wall, the cellar, the wall coping. It measures the true size of whatever crosses it, which is why it can ignore a cat and catch a person crawling.

2D LiDAR: range profile and detection by deviationPlan view. A rotating mirror sweeps the plane and measures range at every angular step. The unit learns the background profile; a deviation from that profile is a detection, and object size is computed from its angular width and its range. 123 DEVIATION = DETECTION width 62 cm · DETECTED width 26 cm · BELOW THRESHOLD 2D LiDAR · CLASS 1 ROTATING MIRROR WALL / FENCE the mirror turns 360°; the useful sector is 95° LEARNED BACKGROUND PROFILE MEASURED PROFILE PER-ZONE THRESHOLD (EXAMPLE) ZONE 1 · ≥ 60 cm ZONE 2 · ≥ 30 cm ZONE 3 · ≥ 15 cm size = angular width × range
LiDAR. The mirror rotates continuously and measures a range at every angular step: the result is a range profile. The unit learns the background profile, and what it detects is the deviation from it. Because it knows both range and angular width, it computes the real size of the object — which is why the threshold can be set in centimetres, zone by zone.

What makes it unique

MEASURE

Real size, not a guess

It knows each object's range and angular width, so thresholds are set in centimetres, zone by zone. The only technology in our palette that measures size rather than estimating it.

PRECISION

Right against the facade

The plane stands centimetres from the glass or the wall: a clean cut at the boundary, no overreach into the neighbour's plot, no dead zones in front of the protected surface.

CLASS 1

Safe and invisible

Class 1 laser — no eye hazard, no mandatory signage. Nobody sees where the curtain is; that is part of why it works.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a security LiDAR cost?

It is a critical-plane technology, not general surveillance, and is sized by the plane to protect. The fixed price comes after the visit; for open ground, radar usually pays off better.

Is LiDAR dangerous to the eyes?

No: the units we install are Class 1 laser, the lowest classification, the same category as a household CD player. No signage required.

Does it protect a picture window or a glass facade?

That is its star application: it raises a plane of light centimetres from the glass, detecting any approach before the surface is touched.

Can it ignore a cat and detect a person?

Yes, because it measures the object's real size from its angular width and range. The threshold is set in centimetres and per zone — no infrared beam does that.

How is it different from an infrared beam?

A beam watches a line between two points; LiDAR watches a whole plane and measures size by zone. It is more selective and harder to defeat.

Does LiDAR work in fog or heavy rain?

It degrades by physics: scattering absorbs the pulse. Filter modes mitigate but do not eliminate it, which is why it is used as a critical plane inside a layered system.

Can a virtual wall be set above the real wall?

Yes: it is a typical application, a vertical plane at the wall coping that warns of a climb attempt.

Does it protect the boundary without overreaching into the neighbour's plot?

Yes, and it is an advantage over radar: the cut is clean at the plot line, without capturing the neighbouring ground.

How many zones can a LiDAR watch?

Reference units allow up to 8 independent zones, each with its own sensitivity, minimum object size and configurable output.

Does it detect a small object thrown through the plane?

Security units detect objects on the order of 2 cm crossing the plane, depending on the sensitivity mode.

Does it need installer software?

Yes: object size per zone is configured in the installer software, which is part of our commissioning work.

Can you see where the laser curtain is?

No: it is invisible, and that is part of its effectiveness. There is no visible barrier for an intruder to locate and bypass.

Is it worth using for the whole garden?

Not cost-effective: for general area, radar covers more for less. LiDAR earns its place where one plane needs centimetre precision.

Is there a model for large outdoor areas?

Yes: a larger 30 × 60 m, 190° model with fog/snow mode and EN 50131 Grade 3 certification, for cases that require it.

Does LiDAR replace the camera?

No: it detects precisely, but the AI camera provides the image that verifies and serves as evidence. They work together.

What is a security LiDAR?

An invisible laser plane that measures distance at every angular step using a rotating mirror. The unit learns the background profile and detects any deviation from it — and because it knows both range and angular width, it computes the real size of the object.

How is it different from an infrared beam?

A beam watches a line between two points; LiDAR watches an entire plane and measures object size, zone by zone, in centimetres. That is how it can ignore a cat yet detect a person crawling — something no beam can do.

Is the laser safe for eyes, children, pets?

Yes: the units we install are Class 1 — the lowest laser classification, the same category as a household CD player. No warning signage is required.

Where does it make most sense at a home?

In front of a glass facade or a row of terrace doors, along the top of a wall (a virtual wall above the real one), on a narrow boundary strip where radar would overreach into the neighbour's plot, or protecting a cellar or a wall with artwork.

Does fog or heavy rain affect it?

Yes, by physics: scattering absorbs the pulse. Filter modes mitigate but do not eliminate it — which is why LiDAR serves as a critical plane inside a layered system rather than as a lone outdoor layer.

Why not use it for the whole garden?

Cost-efficiency: for general area surveillance, radar covers more for less. LiDAR earns its price where one specific plane needs centimetre precision.
